Mead High School administration wants to consider community feedback when making important decisions.

Mead High School’s principal Mrs. Rachael Ayers will be holding a virtual town hall meeting this Thursday, Nov. 19. There will be two meetings held in order to give everyone who would like a chance to attend. The first meeting will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m., and the second one will be from 4:00-5:00 p.m.

The meetings will be held in a virtual format on the app WebEx that students already use for their day-to-day virtual classes. You can request to be emailed the link for the WebEx by first going to the Mead High School official website. From there, you should find it on the homepage under the upcoming event’s section.

The link will lead you to a Google Form where you need to fill out some basic information such as your email address for the WebEx link to be sent to, what meeting you want to attend, and what kind of issues that you would like to ask Mrs. Ayers about at the town hall so that she has more time and research to properly answer your questions.

The school has opened 50 slots, and Mrs. Ayers says anyone is welcome to attend: parents, students, and community members alike. This meeting will be held for a better chance of community access and feedback, according to Mrs. Ayers.

Mrs. Ayers says some of the topics that she will be addressing and that are on the table are not only coronavirus related but also regarding “the election, how our kids are navigating these times, [and] social emotional health”.

This town hall meeting will be a first for Mrs. Ayers, who used to get her information and community feedback at events such as football games that are now being highly regulated in order to ensure student and family safety. 

She wants to use this new model as a “platform for parents to log in and talk to [her] and other officials around the school”. If all goes well and this is a productive form of communication, she hopes it will become a once-a-semester or once-a-quarter event.

Mrs. Ayers would like people to know before attending the meeting that they should not be reluctant to ask questions or say what’s on their mind out of fear of offending someone or coming off the wrong way. She would like parents to know that her position allows for “feedback no matter what it is, because it is information to move forward and serve the community”.

Be sure to make your voice heard this Thursday Nov. 19 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. or 4:00-5:00 p.m. by registering on the Mead High website as soon as possible.
