Mead Boys Basketball becomes 4A state championships

The Mead Mavericks beat the Montrose Indians with a final score of 68-44 Mavericks

Mar. 21 saw an exciting victory for Mead.

On March 21, 2021, the Mead High School Boys Basketball Team won the final game that officially labeled them as Class 4A Boys Basketball State Champions.

The opposing team (Montrose Indians) scored a total of 44 points by the end of the fourth quarter and Mead scored a total of 68 points by the end of the fourth quarter, capturing the championship game played in the Broadmoor World Arena.

The coaches for Boys Basketball present during the game included coach Darin Reese and coach Michael Ward.

Notable players in the championship game include Elijah Knudsen (‘22), who scored 13 out of the Mead Mavericks’ 21 points in the first quarter, and Marcus Santiago (‘21), who scored 18 points later in the game.

After a close call near halftime with Montrose only four points behind Mead, Mead gained a quick lead and pulled out an exciting victory.

The appearance of Nick Basson (‘23) made the game even more special to the Mead players. Basson had recently dealt with a shocking medical emergency but was able to recover and return to the game to cheer on his teammates.
