As we’re facing the current COVID-19 pandemic and watching as it dominates our society and changes our way of living, the main focus of every headline seems to deal with all the negative effects of quarantine on the world.
Understanding that the pandemic has been quite a jaw-dropping situation that’s caused much distress, it’s time to seek out the positives within this negative time and truly bring light back into the world.
For instance, due to the fact that fewer social and economic activities are being held, the climate and air quality have greatly increased. Not to mention, the amount of water pollution has also decreased significantly!
Tanjena Rume writes for the US National Library of Medicine that “due to movement restriction and a significant slowdown of social and economic activities, air quality has improved in many cities with a reduction in water pollution in different parts of the world”. As we’ve been “locked inside”, many environmental advantages have been able to flourish and benefit!
Further, seeing how our world has evolved through the use of social media and technology, going into quarantine has allowed us the opportunity to rebuild relationships and reconnect with one another.
Vipin Thomas argued the exact point by mentioning: “As life slowed down, we have found ways to stay connected with people, even if it’s virtually. Reconnect with your loved ones and retrospect.”
Altogether, quarantine has helped us rebuild that bond with friends and family due to the fact that quarantine allowed the bonus of quality time.
In addition, quarantine has also taught many people to learn the importance of self-discipline and control. A mother from the College of Cardiology said, “My children have taken structure into their own hands by self-made daily calendars with study, exercise and game times. It has been uplifting to see this early maturity.”
Although many argue that quarantine has brought boredom, it has also taught children the concept of maturity and how to stay organized and structured in their daily lives.
Analyzing quarantine as a whole and seeing as it’s brought much negativity into the world, it’s also important to see the positive upbringings of it as well. Through the tragic situation, we have been able to help boost the economy and assist the air quality and pollution, reconnect with loved ones, and teach children self-discipline and willpower.
Although many were negatively impacted by this horrid pandemic, we were also able to grow as a society!
