Cutting the Cord

Should YOU cut the cord on Cable TV?

Cutting the Cord

Blake Caylor, Reporter

Many of today’s consumers use services such as Netflix or Hulu, but most don’t realize the repercussion these services have on the Cable Television industry.  Cable tv’s subscription rates have declined rapidly throughout this year. Although the rates have been declining for a while, the beginning of this year marked a new low and a new trend. Most people who are “cutting the cord” turn to newer services such as Netflix and Hulu.  But, the question remains, should you cut the cord? Here are 3 ways to tell which is right for you:

  1. Price. The cost of cable tv is increasingly unappealing. If you don’t want to pay for cable, netflix is a good alternative. The average cost of cable is 99$ per month. Whereas the cost of netflix is 9.99$
  2. Availability. If you are often on the go, and don’t have time to sit down and watch your favorite shows, consider a cable package that lets you watch on your phone, or, consider the netflix or hulu apps
  3. Selection. If the channel that has your preferred programs is not part of the cable package that you have, do some research, find a streaming service that does. Netflix has plenty of exclusive series, such as House of Cards or Fuller house.
