Anna DeNicholas (‘25) is a senior at Mead High School who will be graduating in May. Anna is heading to Colorado State University where she will major in Animal Science with a minor in Biomedical Science. She chose her place of study due to growing up with animals her whole life.
“I grew up with horses, and I’ve grown up around cattle and such things. So I’ve always been interested in working with them,” said Anna.
She chose CSU because it’s known for being one of the best veterinarian schools in the country as well as where it’s located.
Anna said, “CSU is ranked number 3 in the country for vet schools. It’s a lot more affordable than out of state universities and it’s close to home.”
Anna is most excited about rushing for a sorority and believes this will be a great opportunity to meet new people.
“I think being in a sorority will allow me to be surrounded by people who have the same interests as me as well as people who want to have fun,” she said.
Anna thanks her dad for being such a great mentor throughout her life. She shared that he has consistently supported her and tried to push her, even when she didn’t feel she wanted to be pushed at the time.
Coming into high school, Anna wishes she knew the importance of how everyone is deserving of second chances.
“There’s been many times where I’ve given someone a second chance and I’ve made a friend in them since then,” she said.
Anna’s advice to freshmen is to surround yourself with uplifting people. She believes students should make friends with people who will support their goals.
Anna has been very active in high school: she was member of the National Honor Society for three years, Future Farmers of America for one year, and Track and Field for three years in addition to photographing many sports for school, and managing baseball.
Anna wants to thank the track coaches from Mead as well as Longmont, where she attended her freshman year, for making the past four years memorable and pushing her to be the best she can.
Her last bit of advice is as follows: “I would definitely tell people to participate in sports as you can not only stay active [and] gain long-lasting friendships.”
We’re wishing Anna the best of luck as she starts her next chapter.
