In April 2024, 13-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez went missing. She was last seen in Lake Elsinore in southeast downtown Los Angeles. Hernandez had a history of running away from home, and she would usually stay with extended family at those times.
Popular singer D4vd, officially known as David Anthony Burke, is a 20-year-old singer originally from Houston, Texas, and is famous for songs like “Romantic Homicide” and “Here With Me”. Burke has recently been on tour around the United States and Europe.
On September 6, 2025, Burke performed in Chicago. Just two days later, the body of Hernandez was found dismembered in an impounded Tesla, registered in Burke’s name. The car was located in Hollywood, about 60 miles from where Hernandez was last seen, and was impounded after someone reported it abandoned in the Hollywood hills, near where Burke had been staying. Officials say, “[Hernandez] appears to have been deceased inside of the vehicle for an extended period of time before being found.” Burke continued his tour despite this news, then decided to cancel his performance in Seattle on Wednesday, September 16, in addition to the rest of the performances he had planned around the United States.
Hernandez’s brother Matthew Rivas told NBCLA that their family members who still live in Lake Elsinore are aware that Hernandez knew Burke. Rivas said that on the day she went missing, she was on her way to see a movie with Burke and never returned. Her mother claims she was dating someone named David close to the time of her disappearance. There is also a photo of Burke in Lake Elsinore before her disappearance, just a couple minutes away from where Celeste lived.
Hernandez’s mother also said that the information that the police provided about the body included a description of a distinct tattoo that matched her daughter’s appearance. Later, the LAPD revealed that they found the letters “Shhh” tattooed on her right index finger, which also matches the same tattoo on Burke’s finger. According to many sources and fans, Burke hadn’t had that tattoo until after Hernandez’s disappearance in April of 2024.
There are many different allegations against Burke about an unreleased song called “Celeste” in which he sings, “Oh, Celeste, the girl with my name tattooed on her chest // Smell her on my clothes like cigarettes // I hear her voice each time I take a breath // I’m obsessed.”
These lyrics concern many people with the way he’s allegedly talking about this young girl, when he is 20 years old. People also believe that lyrics in his song “Romantic Homicide” and “Here With Me” are also about her.
