Mead High School’s Varsity Baseball team has, even after a rough series against Roosevelt and a loss to Berthoud, matched the win record from last season.

Last year Varsity finished the season with a record of 8 wins and 11 losses, this season’s record is currently 8 wins and 3 losses. The best season in Mead Baseball history was 2014-2015, with a record of 10 wins and 9 losses.

After an exciting season opener with a final score of 33-0 against Battle Mountain, Mead won 6 games in a row before a close game in Berthoud. After their first loss, the boys came back and beat Berthoud 7-3. Mead’s next game will be at Windsor on Thursday the 12th.

In addition to team accolades, individual athletes on Mead’s baseball team are receiving praise. Junior outfielder Tanner Leise was named one of Longmont Time’s Call’s athletes of the week back in March.

This is only the second season under head coach Randy Click; Coach Click came in after Greg Brock’s departure from the Mavericks program in 2016. Click coaches varsity baseball as well as being a science teacher at Mead. This will be the first of the last four coaches to hold the position for more than a single year.

Coach Click’s successes this season have been contributed to the strength of the team dynamic. Every pre-game huddle has been broken with a cheer of “Family” and athletes gather weekly for team dinner in the cafeteria. The team wins together and losses together.

Mead’s Varsity baseball squad has overcoming the first loss of the season, coming back to beat Berthoud in their second game. Demonstrating resiliency and determination. But as the season continues its important they continue their hard work. Support is another key factor to any sport’s program’s success, so come and fill the stands at any home game. Varsity games are on Wednesdays and Saturdays, the next home game will against Windsor on the 14th.
