A candle in the dark
The Rose Candle
A poem by poet Allison Muncy
My room smells of smoke
It reminds me of birthday candles
Candles you blow out for a celebration
But it’s just a candle that my mom lit for me
It smells of roses and reminds me of my great-grandma whom I am named after
But this isn’t a happy celebration
The candle was the only thing that seemed to calm my nerves after my day of panic
The warmth
The aroma
The light
But I blew it out and now I have nothing
Nothing to get me through the darkness inside
