Where are they going: Joslynn Veltien
Welcome to The Mav’s Senior Tradition where we highlight our current seniors and discuss where they are headed to
After high school, senior Joslynn Veltien (’23) plans to attend Weber State University in Ogden, Utah. There she plans to study business or education while furthering her athletic career with their softball program.
During her time at Mead High, Joslynn has made a big impact on the school and her peers. She participated in many different clubs and extracurriculars such as Student Council and National Honor Society, but spent the majority of her time on the softball field.
Joslynn said, “Some of my favorite memories are from season, I loved themed practices and getting to spend as much time with my team as I was able to.”
She helped lead her team to State all four years as their starting pitcher, winning a total of 71 games during her high school career. Joslynn was also nominated as a captain for her junior and senior season because of her ability to step up as a teammate.
Joslynn mentioned that her biggest accomplishments were being named Player of the Year for her conference and making Academic All State.
She made connections with her team and classmates as well as her teachers. She said, “I loved having Ms. Helmus as a teacher, as well as Ms. Sandoval. AP Psychology was my first AP class, and Sandoval really helped me and guided me through it.”
Joslynn also spoke on her relationship with Coach Klatt. “He coached my brother, so it was great to have him to talk to during class,” she said.
She advises other students to try out new clubs and get involved with extracurriculars because “even if you don’t like it, you can always say that you tried it”.
She continued, “Try to find something else that you enjoy.”
As Joslynn moves on in her next years, we wish her luck and know she will do great fulfilling her goals.
