Mead welcomes Madeleine Tyma to the English department

Ms. Madeleine Tyma is a new teacher at Mead High. She teaches English 10, English 12, and AP Language and Composition. Tyma got her degree from Regis University and studied psychology and women and gender studies before switching to teaching.

Tyma first knew she wanted to be an English teacher after realizing her love for books. She admits she was the “weird” kid in high school who loved reading every book there was. In high school her favorite book was The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky.

In high school, Tyma remembers enjoying history and art. She specifically enjoyed ceramics and wishes she could still pursue it.

Outside of school, Tyma enjoys reading. She said, “I could never pick one favorite book, I have a new one each month.” She also enjoys hanging out with her two cats, Ivy and Fern.

Tyma’s favorite part of being a teacher is when she really connects with her students. She especially enjoys watching her students grow and begin to truly grasp what they are learning in class.

Tyma’s advice for her students is to never be afraid to ask adults for help. She says that adults are constantly looking out for students and want the best for them. Tyma reminds students, “The ball is in your court.”

Tyma has enjoyed her first few months at Mead and is excited to be a part of the Maverick team.
