Mead celebrates their impressive performance in the regional tournament.

The MHS softball team has had a successful season so far, going 17-9, and being ranked 26th in the state of Colorado. That being said, they are looking to finish strong with an opportunity to compete in the state championship tournament.

Because of their impressive performance in the regional tournament last weekend, they have gotten far. They started out with a statement 12-0 win against Pueblo East. They then struggled against D’Evelyn, but made up for it by beating Falcon 11-1. Softball placed second in their region and advanced to the state championship tournament.

The number nine seeded Mead will face off against number eight Conifer in the first round. The Mavericks will have to win four games in a row if they want to take home the title of state champs.

Mead’s catcher, Jorja Haskin (23’) speaks on how confident she is in her team.

She said, “Going into state, we’ve worked so hard and grown so much, and if we trust the person beside us, I know we will do really well.”

The tournament starts on Friday, Oct. 22, and will conclude on Oct. 23. It is located at the Aurora Sports Park in Aurora.
