Scream (2022) is a great remake of a classic

The new Scream movie captures all the good and bad qualities of a classic slasher film

Ghostface copycats continue to terrorize people 25 years later

Scream 2022 is a new take on the iconic horror slasher film directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpinand and written by James Vanderbilt Guy Busick. This 1996 story is still scaring viewers today. The movie stars Melissa Barrera, Mason Gooding, Jenna Ortega, and Jack Quaid. However, some of the original Scream cast members were featured including Neve Campbell, Skeet Ulrich, Marley Shelton, Courteney Cox, and David Arquette.

In the film, high school student Tara Carpenter (played by Jenna Ortega) is home alone when she is attacked by Ghostface. Upon hearing the news, Tara’s older sister Sam Carpenter (Melissa Barrera) returns to her hometown to help Tara and catch ghostface. Sam is attacked soon after her arrival and discovers that someone knows her secret. She also finds that her family is being targeted, and she seeks out Officer Dewey (David Arquette) to help her find the person tormenting her family.

Though Dewey rejects Sam’s offer, he sends her in the direction of Sidney Prescott and Gale Weathers, who had gone through this before. Once Sidney and Gale arrive, the group forms, including Sam’s friends and boyfriend. Their goal is to try to stop Ghostface from killing more people.

While I was watching this movie I was thoroughly impressed. The gore, plot twists, and suspense were all just the right amount for the perfect horror movie.

The jump scares weren’t always predictable and the gore looked real, as expected from a newer movie.

The plot twists were honestly interesting and kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time.

I don’t have a lot of critiques about this movie, other than the characters being unrealistically oblivious sometimes, but I suppose that’s expected in horror movies. The characters also felt more real and relatable, which gave the movie some moments of comic relief. The plot was interesting, and the character development throughout the movie was amazing.

If you like horror movies that aren’t completely predictable, I recommend watching Scream.
