Losing Friends (poem)
April 28, 2022
Friend 1
Friend 2
We don’t talk anymore,
And I don’t know why
She moved,
I moved
She never told me,
I didn’t want to hurt her
She did hurt me.
I moved to California in the summer
She left me in Colorado.
Our memories washed away
woosh gone
Like they were never there in the first place
I miss her how the stars miss the moon
I miss her how the flowers miss the bees
Why did she leave me like the sun leaves the moon?
We’ve been friends for 8 years.
We met in the second grade.
Our friendship was as deep as the roots of an oak tree.
We now are autumn trees: changing and falling apart.
She left me, she left me, she left me, she left me
I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry
we’ve broken apart like dead flowers.
We’ve broken like how the Earth snaps when an earthquake happens
I guess this means I must move on
I guess this means she moved on
Everything’s forgotten.
Everything’s gone.
We’re done.
