Inclusion spirit week is Feb. 27 to March 3
Starting next week, students can participate in spirit week to support Inclusion in and out of MHS
From Monday, Feb. 27 to Friday, March 3 Mead High is having an Inclusion spirit week.
On Wednesday, Feb. 22, Mav20 Advisory classes listened to a brief presentation about the importance of inclusion.
Inclusion can look like a lot of things. Most especially, we should always be making sure that the language we’re using reflects the goal of making everyone feel welcome and comfortable. Spread the Word: Inclusion encourages all to take action and pledge to spread the word.
On Monday, students are split between summer and winter; dress up in some bright summer clothes or go all out with some winter gear. As always, keep it school appropriate and no skis, snowboards, etc.
Tuesday is the day to dress up as your favorite superhero. Whether it’s Superman, Wonder Woman, Spiderman, use Superhero Day to show some Marvel or DC spirit.
Wednesday is the day to wear this year’s Inclusion shirts if they’ve been purchased. You can also wear Inclusion shirts from past years. If you don’t have an Inclusion shirt, wear your favorite crazy socks instead.
Thursday is Hat Day. Wear your favorite beanie, baseball cap, or any other kind of hat.
On Friday, students are encouraged to wear jerseys from their favorite sports teams and athletes for Jersey Out Day. Friday will also be the Inclusion assembly and Unified vs. teachers basketball game.
Inclusion always goes beyond just a week of bringing awareness. Invite someone to lunch that you usually don’t talk to, support your peers from different backgrounds and abilities, say hi in the hallway. And make sure that the way you act and talk in and outside of school never alienates others.
Your donation will support the student journalists of Mead High School. Your contribution will allow us to purchase equipment and cover our annual website hosting costs.
Arizona Lee is a senior, and this is her second year as Editor-in-Chief of The Mav. She enjoys reading, listening to good music, and spending time with friends. She hopes to guide the student newspaper and broadcast this year to continued success.
