Mafia Boss Matteo Messina Denaro arrested
One of the most important mafia bosses in Italy was arrested, bringing justice to many civilians
After 30 years of being wanted, Italian mafia leader Matteo Messina Denaro was arrested in Palermo, Sicily, Italy, on Jan. 15, 2023.
Messina Denaro is a leader in the mafia who was involved in the murder of two judges: Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino. Both lost their lives in 1992. Denaro was also involved in the terrorist attacks that took place in Milan, Florence, and Rome during 1993.
An operation group in Italy (Reparto Operativo Speciale) was in charge of the search for Messina Denaro. He was arrested when spotted in an oncological private clinic in Palermo, Sicily where he passed under the identity of an individual named Andrea Bonafede. Denaro did not resist his arrest by an officer of the Italian Armed Forces.
After such a memorable moment, head of the Italian State Sergio Mattarella congratulated the Italian Armed Forces for the bravery of the arrest.

I’m surprised Messina Denaro didn’t resist arrest since he was wanted for 30 years.
