Denver Nuggets progress in first championship appearance
Against the Miami Heat, the Denver Nuggets are competing in the NBA finals for the first time in franchise history.
The Denver Nuggets brought their brooms to Los Angeles and swept the LA Lakers in game four of the Western Conference Finals. This means a great deal for the Denver Nuggets, as they will be heading to the NBA Finals for the first time in franchise history. This marks a new age with a potential hall-of-fame starting five in the Nuggets’ lineup with two-time NBA MVP center Nikola Jokic leading the pack.
There’s no doubt in anybody’s mind that the fix was in for the Lakers, with several nonsensical fouls being called on the Nuggets. The Lakers were averaging 26.75 free throw attempts through all four games in the finals, while the Nuggets were averaging 20.25 free throw attempts throughout the series. That’s about 12 to 13 more points than the Nuggets in free throws alone. Regardless, the Nuggets came to win and persevered through the finish with a fantastic sweep of the Lakers. The Nuggets are on a hot streak following their victory, but so are the Miami Heat, their opponents in the finals following their game seven win against the Boston Celtics.
There’s no question that this NBA Finals series will be exciting. With two teams designed for intense, fast-paced play, the 2023 NBA Finals will be action-packed and fun to watch. The first game of the series begins June 1 at 8:30 PM Eastern Time (6:30 PM Mountain Time).
The question of who will be the victor has been debated by several over the course of the week. The Heat are the clear underdogs facing the Denver Nuggets who have home-court advantage. As long as the Nuggets keep their cool, and don’t get too arrogant, they could pull away with an easy sweep over the Heat. As seen with the Boston-Miami series, the Heat have the ability to make the best team’s suffer through a series. Regardless, the Nuggets have a much higher likelihood of pulling away with the championship following this series. This is primarily due to the immense talent on the Nuggets starting lineup, featuring future hall-of-famers and several all-stars. Compared to the Heat’s primarily undrafted starting lineup, it’s clear where the talent lies.
Overall, the chances for the Nuggets to defeat the Heat in this year’s finals are decently high. Regardless, the Heat can still put up quite a fight against another team, making them both dangerous and fun to watch. Regardless of whether the Nuggets win or lose the series, it will still be a dazzling spectacle of talent and exciting play on both sides of the court.
