Up until this point, MHS boys soccer has had a solid season. With a 7-2-1 season to start, hopes for the team remain high. Mead, however, was scheduled to play the 9-0-1 Centaurus Warriors on Oct. 3. Centaurus, being number one in the state, is a formidable opponent for this year’s Mavericks. Still, the Mavs were looking forward to the game and the outcome that would ensue.
The Mavs’ game against Centaurus started and remained slow for the first half. While senior Jordan Lohr (’24) made a few epic saves throughout the half, one of which was a stellar fingertip save off a header by a Centaurus forward, the game continued in a slow burning fashion. The offense, although sporting studs such as senior Logan Knight (’24), failed to make any major moves to put the Mavs in the lead. This offensive dry spell would last until nearly the end of the game. Regardless, the defense played phenomenally throughout the entire game.
The defense was the bright spot for the Mavs this game. Intercepting passes left and right, minimal shots were taken at the goal. The MHS soccer team held Centaurus, who had 40 goals the previous season to only one goal this game. This can be accredited to Jordan Lohr and the team’s defense, all playing at the top of their game.
Still, the Mavericks’ defense unfortunately wavered — a goal slipped past with 14 minutes remaining in the second half. However, following a foul and a beautiful penalty kick from star striker Logan Knight, the 0-1 deficit ended swiftly.
Thanks to a studly penalty kick from Logan Knight and the help of the Mavs defense, the MHS boys’ soccer team was able to hold their own against the current number one seed, Centaurus. This feat was spectacular to watch, and it was clear the team has grown and come a long way since the beginning of the season. Even with Dalton Berg’s (’24) injury and subsequent absence towards the end of the game, the team kept up the pace and stopped Centaurus from scoring again. This tie is exciting news for the Mavs, giving them the confidence to continue aiming for greatness. Fans of the MHS boys’ soccer team are looking forward to how the team will continue to develop and progress this seaon.
The boys’ soccer team plays next at Silver Creek Oct. 9. For more information, check out the MHS Soccer Schedule.

This was a great sports piece on the soccer team. It was an impressive feat to hang with the number one ranked team.
