Celebration, Florida rests near Orlando. The Greek Revival and Neoclassical vernacular style of the town may look similar to the classic Disney style. This is because the Walt Disney Company developed this entire town in 1994.
-
Some of Celebration reminds me of a Florida version of the fictional Stars Hollow from Gilmore Girls. It’s interesting that the small development was created just a decade before the show started.
-
There’s even a downtown diner like Luke’s Diner in Gilmore Girls. Just like the show, the Downtown Diner is located on the corner near a main street, Front Street.
-
Le Macaron French Pastries and Kilwins provides Celebration with many sweet treats.
-
In the midst of November, Celebration started completing their early Christmas “celebration.”
-
Gypsy Moon, a vintage mercantile-like shop, began window dressing for the Christmas season.
-
The Celebration Company studied architecture from places like New Orleans, Savannah and Charleston in order to add a sense of diversity and heritage.
-
Much of the development planning for the new city was designed with parks and lakes woven throughout.
-
Docks to Lake Rianhard, on an outskirt of Celebration, were decorated for Christmas—with even a gingerbread house in the works. Quaint rocking chairs looked out upon the large lake.
-
Floridian wildlife was also present in Lake Rianhard. Signs warned of possible alligators and to visit the banks of the lake at one’s own risk. Turtles and fish also swam about.
-
Celebration Hotel looks over the waters of Lake Rianhard, nestled between a modge podge of palm trees.
-
Much of the information about Celebration’s development, outside of my prior knowledge, was from the Society of Architectural Historians. It is truly fascinating that an actual town can be created and founded by an entertainment company.
