The Table of Hope food bank, based out of White Fields Community Church, began serving the people of northern Colorado in Dec. 2020 after seeing an increase of people needing food while being stuck at home due to COVID-19. Their goal was to get nutritious food into the community and have been growing ever since.
The food bank is open the second and fourth Saturday of every month from 9 to 11 a.m., but if people come during the week, they typically get served depending on how many staff members there are. The busiest days for the food bank are Nov. 18, 19, and 20, which is their Thanksgiving box distribution.
Every pantry day, they serve an average of 250 people. Along with the people they serve at the pantry, they do deliveries, which many pantries don’t do. Their numbers have been increasing every year since 2020. Adults, seniors, and children all come to the pantry. People come from Longmont, Firestone, Fredrick, and Dacono primarily, but also from Fort Collins, Loveland, Greedly, Platteville, Fort Lupton, Brighton, Boulder, Lafayette, Louisville, and even Aurora.
The Table of Hope has student volunteers from many different schools: Mead High School, Niwot High School, Twin Peaks, and Mead Middle, among other volunteers. Volunteers help pack the boxes for passing out and delivering. They serve food directly and also label and date the food.
During Christmas and Thanksgiving, there is an increase in families needing food for the holidays.
