The Way I Am Now, written by Amber Smith, tells the story of Eden, a young female with a haunting past, trying to come to terms with retelling her story.
Eden and Josh never really had a shot at a healthy relationship. When they dated in high school, they each had personal problems getting in the way of the connection they felt toward each other. Eden was carrying the burden of a devastating sexual assault, while Josh was dealing with his private struggle with his alcoholic father.
Eden publicly accused her rapist. After many tough months, Eden started college while her case went to trial. This was a very important part for the readers of the series. When she and Josh connect again, they agree they are in the right place and time for their relationship to work. The only trouble is: how will they stay together through the challenges and rush of college? Most of all, how will they stay together through the reality that Eden’s trial is still being held—a trial that will possibly give Eden justice?
After reading this book, I have many questions and a lot of emotions towards it. I felt that Eden grew in character from the last book, The Way I Used To Be. After reading this book, I feel like I have more closure, knowing Josh and Eden got their happy ending. This book made me shed some tears. I loved how much drama was added to this book and the balancing amount of romance. I definitely would recommend this book if you love dramatic romance stories, with many plot twists and surprises.
I give The Way I Am Now an 8/10.
