Jayna Davis (‘24) is a senior here at Mead High School. She has only been here since junior year, as she just recently transferred from her hometown in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to Firestone.
Since beginning school here, Jayna’s favorite memory about Mead is just meeting and befriending all the people, no matter where they came from. “I was friends with half of the whole exchange student group. It was fun learning about how everything was so different from the culture, [and] just where they were from,” said Jayna.
Jayna has participated in the choir program both years and in the spring musical this year, but she wishes that she could’ve done more. “I regret, when I first came here junior year, not seeing what was available to do, because now I think about all these fun things that I say, ‘Oh, I could do this next year!’ but I can’t.”
Jayna’s advice for students is to get involved as much as possible. Even though it may seem like everyone tells you to get involved, you definitely should because it is so much fun, and once you get to senior year, you will regret not doing all those things.
With graduation on the horizon, Jayna is excited for her future. She isn’t quite sure whether she would like to stay in Colorado or go back to her home state of Louisiana, but she will be happy wherever. Jayna hopes to pursue a career in veterinary science and one day become a vet to help out as many animals as she can. In case something changes, she has a backup plan to become an educator to teach criminal science.
At one point, Jayna thought of doing musical education. She took inspiration from her favorite teacher, Mrs. Berry. She says that she loves how encouraging and loving Mrs. Berry is to all of her students and how she has made her high school experience ten times better.
“At the beginning of every class, she asks us how everything is going and always reminds us that our health matters and that everything about us matters, and she makes it obvious that she cares and that we matter to her.”
We are all so grateful to be able to have Jayna here, and we can’t wait to see where the wind takes her when she leaves the walls of this school.
