Monserrat Monero (‘24) is going to Colorado State University to pursue her interest in mechanical engineering.
From a young age, Monserrat was aware of her strengths in math; this helped her realize she would like to take her passion for math further into adult life.
”I’ve always been good at math, so I stuck to it, and that’s what I decided I wanted to do,” she said.
In high school, Monserrat has greatly improved her confidence since her freshman year where she was shy and reserved. She now feels comfortable talking to others.
Monserrat has found a welcoming community by working the tech side of things in theater — tech has been a part of her life for three years. She said that the community is, “so close-knit” where students are always there for each other.
“A big aspect of theater is working together and communicating,” she said.
Seussical and the 2024 musical Cinderella are some of her favorite performances that she has been a part of. Through tech, she is given a creative outlet as well as working with friends and forming bonds.
Likewise, various art classes are also courses she has enjoyed. Monserrat often feels that these classes consist of like-minded people who also love art. Through her art courses, she can tap further into her hobby of painting.
Monserrat recommends that incoming students, “explore classes and meet new people. Branch out; this is the year to do so.”
Lastly, she advises freshmen to take their gym classes right away.
We wish Monserrat many more positive experiences after high school and beyond.
