Lucas Witko (‘24), or Luke, as many know him, is a senior who will be graduating from Mead High School this year. Luke remembers his time here at Mead as “a great time” with “lots of fun [memories].”
Luke has met lots of new people at Mead and said, “Everyone I’ve met here has been super nice.”
Luke enjoyed his time here, especially in his science classes.
“I’m really passionate about science,” he said.
He enjoyed studying science during his time at Mead, taking a science course each of his four years, including AP Chemistry this year. He would like to thank Ms. Fletcher for getting him interested in science.
Although Luke enjoyed science, after graduating, he intends to focus on athletics and is choosing to take a gap year to pursue his dream of playing NCAA Division I ice hockey. Luke was the starting goalie on the Resurrection Christian Hockey Team this year and stated that some of his favorite memories throughout his time in high school were with the team.
“The bus rides and the locker room environment [were some of my favorite memories],” Luke said.
“The team had a lot of kids who went to Mead [and that’s] pretty special because in Colorado it’s pretty rare to play hockey with kids who go to your school.”
Luke enjoyed making friends with kids on and off his hockey team. Next year, Luke will continue his steps toward playing Division I hockey, and his next step forward is playing AAA hockey by trying out for different Division I teams.
Luke stated he had lots of teams he was interested in playing for, including “The Colorado Rampage, The Connecticut Junior Rangers, and Okanagan,” the last of which is a new up-coming program he is interested in. Luke added that he, “would love to stay in the state and stay and play local [hockey].”
One of his dreams is to stay and play for one of Colorado’s Division I teams, including Denver University, Colorado College, and the Air Force Academy.
“We’ll see where I end up,” Luke said.
Luke is a very fun and kind person, as most people who are friends with him know. He stated, “I just want to be remembered as a great guy, someone who is nice to people and helps people out.”
Luke will be remembered for just that.
Luke’s time here at Mead High School has been memorable and fun. Luke would like to thank all the staff, teachers, and students who made his time here enjoyable.
