This year will be Ms. Lammey’s first as the Student Council advisor. As an advisor, her job is quite different from the role a teacher usually plays in a classroom setting. In contrast to the unit by unit schedule she is used to, her position in Student Council is to facilitate an environment where young leaders can take charge.
“Ms. Rue did a wonderful job building up the class, so when I came in this year, students already had plans [and] checklists, and we’re starting to get tasks done without me having to ask them,” said Lammey.
It is understated and rarely understood how hard student council works behind the scenes. The students (with some help) plan our major events, fundraisers, decorations, and even our school spirit. Their dedication to Mead’s community and making things just right for the student body is no easy feat.
Of course, this does not mean Ms. Lammey has no involvement in the planning. In fact, StuCo has been quite the addition to her plate- regardless, it seems as though she loves it and wouldn’t have it any other way.
“My favorite part is getting to know the inside scoop [on] the events happening at the school, and then working with really great kids who are great leaders [and are] super motivated and super hilarious,” Lammey stated.
Student council is excited to have Ms. Lammey as a part of the team, and cannot wait to see what the year has in store.
