The cross country season for Mead High School has officially started! The season started at the beginning of August, and the team has already been to three meets as of this moment. The entire team has had a very strong start to the season and has been putting in lots of hard work and dedication towards every single race and practice.
The first meet was on Friday, August 23rd, Cheyenne Mountain Stampede, located in Colorado Springs. Mead high school earned 7th place out of 20 high schools for boys Varsity, 8th place out of 18 for girls Varsity, 12th place out of 19 for girls Junior Varsity, and 19th out of 24 for boys Junior Varsity. Overall, the team did well for the first meet, despite the fact there were many hills, downhills, a run through a creek, and high temperatures at this course.
The second meet was on Friday, August 30th, named Wyoming Invitational meet in Cheyenne, Wyoming. The boys Varsity team earned 12th out of 25 high schools, 12th place out of 19 for girls Varsity, 9th place out of 9 for girls JV, and 18th place out of 19 for boys JV. The course was on a golf course where runners ran past cows, had some steep downhills, and a large gradual hill in the middle of the course. Everyone pushed through and were successful at this meet, as some of the team members gained a personal record from this race.
The third meet was on Wednesday, September 4th, and was called the RE-1J District meet. This meet was a big race, since it was required throughout all of the high schools in the district to attend. There was no JV or Varsity for this meet, and therefore the boys team earned 4th out of 9 high schools, and the girls earned 3rd place out of 8.
The team is looking forward to the season ahead of them and the road to the state championships at the beginning of November, as well as looking forward to the annual Mead Stampede race hosted at the high school on October 5th. Come to support this amazing team and cheer on the strong runners!
