Over this past summer, I had the opportunity to explore my style and expression. In this state of venturing out, glitter came to mind. From the start, I found glitter to be fun and cute. Except, I never thought it was fitting for my everyday look. However this summer I was proved wrong as my love for glitter has grown considerably.
I have always enjoyed trying new things surrounding makeup. Without fail makeup has been an important part of my self-expression. On a day of experimenting with my look, I took inspiration from the HBO Max TV show ‘Euphoria’. Specifically, I recreated the look where the main character, Rue in season one, episode eight had glitter underneath her eyes to resemble tears. Ever since then, I have slowly collected several glitter products.
The more I incorporate glitter into my makeup and outfits, the more confident I become. While it may seem like a small change to some, the use of glitter in my day-to-day life has brought me joy, and I feel as though I have been able to connect to myself.
Along with feeling personally more confident and overall happy, my friends have also noticed the switch. I have also been told I come across as bright and sure in my identity.
I love using glitter over pink eyeshadow and sparkles on top of my blush. Recently I found a cute body glitter that I wear more often than not. Having the summer to be able to explore and find new ways to express myself without fear of judgment has been one of the most special experiences I’ve had.
Glitter also opened opportunities for me to find my fashion in clothes. Along with new hairstyles and new hair colors. As well as feeling free and open to trying new things to embrace my true self.
Once I was able to start this journey of self-expression, stemming from glitter, it has grown from outer appearances to more aspects of my life, reflecting on my overall self.
I will continue to use glitter in my daily makeup routine for the time being. I feel truly lucky to have found a way to embrace and express myself through sparkles, bright colors, and most importantly, glitter.
