The first set started off great, Holy Family got the ball to start, but Mead started cashing in points right off the bat.
Captains from both the Mavericks and the Tigers spoke to the referee about different play calls. The Tigers began to gain momentum and even the score, but that didn’t stop the Mavs as the score proceeded to go up, winning the set 25-18.
After a tight start to the second set with 8-4 on the board, the Mavericks began to push the lead further at 19-7. Most points came off of little mistakes by the Holy Family Tigers such as miscommunications and violations. The Mavericks kept their momentum going and won the set 25-11.
Hailey Hall (‘25) and Elena Gomez (‘26) were major factors when racking in points, mainly due to powerful hits Holy Family couldn’t return. The Mead girls had great communication, and after every play came together and cheered one another on.
Holy Family had the ball to start the third set and scored on the first serve. On the second serve, Cailin Hall (‘28) set up Sage Morris (‘26) for a kill that Holy Family couldn’t take, tying the game 1-1.
Holy Family, still persevering and not giving up the fight kept the game tight at 5-5. A free ball straight to Hailey Hall (‘25) gained her the ability to spike it down and increase that lead by two, bringing the score to an exhilarating 7-5. Cailin Hall (‘28) went on a nine point rally with her serves, pushing the lead to 16-5.
Coach Mikayla Kammerzell held her faith in our JV swingers, including Joslyn Wellington (‘28), Taylor Gordon (‘27), Harlyn Brown (‘26) and Shea Chapman (‘26), subbing them into the game and finishing things off for the Mavs.
The Mavericks led a tight first set 25-18, which gave them a good lead and confidence boost to continue into the second set where they won 25-11. For the final set, The Mavericks won 25-16, ending the game with a complete sweep.
Let’s go Mavericks. This is the fourth game in a row where the Mavericks have crushed their opponent. They are 6-4 overall, but 4-0 in their league.
