This past Saturday, Mead High School’s cross country team hosted their fourteenth annual Mead Stampede, and the results of this meet were very impressive.
Team captain and returning athlete Elena Freed commented on how amazing Mead’s team was in representing our school.
“The team was very supportive of both their teammates and the other schools. They just ran their hearts out and did a great job. I think that shows how much they care about the team and the school.”
Freed also mentioned how she felt this meet was fun for everyone, new and returning athletes, to parents, and volunteers.
“I think that [being prepared] helped a lot of our younger runners and more experienced runners have a really good time.” She said, “Mead has a really good attitude towards other teams.”
Steve Parsons, head coach of the team, agrees that the meet went very well for the team.
“This is my fourth year running it, and it is the best version of it we’ve already done.”
He also revealed six students gained a new personal-record from this race. “Even though people are sore because we’re in the high mileage week, it seems like everyone is doing better than [past] races, which is exactly what you want to see.”
Parsons said in the near future he would like to host more races at the school, “I had this idea to host a twilight race, like a two mile meet. I’ve got some ideas, and I would love to host more races out here.”
Mead’s team showed their school spirit by supporting other teams from across the state, as well as their own. Both coaches and captains agree the team’s season is going exceptionally well, and they hope to host more meets in future seasons.

Great article, but the Stampede was our 14th annual, not our 4th!
