In Mead’s game against Lewis Palmer, the team showed what it means to go head-to-head against the Maverick stampede. With 135-total rushing yards and 117-total passing yards on offense any question about the might of the team was extinguished. Mead’s defense held Lewis Palmer to a 180-total yards of offense.
This football season, the Mavs are off to a strong start and show promise as they’ve gone 4-0 this past Friday. There are high hopes towards a championship caliber season because of this.
Mead received the ball in the opening kickoff, but neither team put points on the board until the second quarter. The Mavs got straight to work in the second quarter. Wide receiver Brycen Gissel (‘26) obtained a 38-yard reception thrown by Christian Hiner (‘25) followed by Ryan St. Aubin (‘26) rushing for a touchdown and with an extra point by Eli Davis (‘26), the score was 7-0.
The Mavericks’ offensive line put up impeccable blocking for Hiner (‘25) as he connected with Gissel (‘26) once again for another six points on a nine yard play action pass, with two minutes left in the second quarter. Davis’ (‘26) extra point attempt was good, adding just one more onto their lead making the score 14-0.
There was indeed a valiant attempt to reach the end zone again; however, the coaches decided that Davis (‘26) was to kick a field goal with under a minute left in the second quarter. With that, the Mavericks made an exit towards the locker room with a 17-0 point lead at halftime.
The Mavs kicked off the second half with Lewis Palmer Rangers receiving the ball. Lewis Palmer had high hopes to make a swift comeback however, not even 4 minutes in the quarter, Austin Ott (‘25) got a hold of the pass and took the drive away from the Rangers, including their confidence.
Mead’s momentum started early when Hiner (‘25) threw a checkdown to Burke (‘25) that went for 10 yards. On fourth down with five yards to go, Mead’s offensive line put up yet more impenetrable blocking as Edison Burke (‘25) plunged down the middle for a 12-yard run. Hiner (‘25) threw Griffin Kratochvil (‘26) open for an 18-yard touchdown pass with 5 minutes left to go in the third quarter. After a successful extra point attempt, the scoreboard read 24-0.
In case things couldn’t get any worse for Lewis Palmer, with three minutes left and a goal to truly drive Lewis Palmer into the dirt, Hiner (‘25) rolls out of the pocket and throws a perfect 38-yard pass to Noah Vroman (‘25). Being almost five yards away from the end zone, the ball was given to Vroman (‘25) where he then proceeded to run the ball in for six. With an extra point attempt made by Davis (‘26), the score is rounded out to be 31-0. Concluding the third quarter as well as the final score of the game with no points obtained by either team in the final quarter of the game.
