In August of 2019, Kimberly Bell, 51, was reported missing by her sister. Bell was last seen in the Denver Metro area in late July, and her sister reported the disappearance a month later. With little evidence being found, the case went cold. After a couple years, Douglas County’s cold case team opened the case back up in 2021.
Even though the case wouldn’t be completely solved until 2024, the team worked laboriously to give the family closure.
This past Friday on October 11, Javier “Alex” Martell, 30, was arrested for a count of first-degree murder. Jennifer Bremer, 38, was arrested on accessory to a crime for the death of Bell.
In a conference on Oct. 15, Sheriff Darren Weekly states that, “Unfortunately, there was very little information or evidence in the investigation as to what actually happened to Kimberly,”
The crime occurred on July 22, 2019, at the Lincoln RTD Parking Structure. Martell was sitting in the backseat of the vehicle, Bremer was sitting in the passenger’s seat, and Bell was in the driver’s seat. Martell became enraged with Bell, and began to strangle her, eventually pulling her into the backseat with him.
Martell and Bremer drove around the Denver Metro area with Bell’s body in the back of the car.
They then proceeded to the Home Depot in the city of Aurora to purchase items to help dispose of the body such as an ax.
When they arrived in Estes Park, Martell removed Bell’s body from the vehicle and took it to a remote location. Here, he would dismember the body and put her into trash bags, which were dumped in a veterinary clinic nearby. The remains have not yet been found.
Martell is in custody on a $10 million cash-only bail, and is set to appear in court November 15.
Bremer was released from custody on a $5000 bond and is set to appear in court December 16.
