Greeting every day with her positive attitude and humor, Bekah Dennis takes on her junior year of high school with her head held high.
Bekah was homeschooled up until her freshman year when she chose to go to public school. Entering her junior year, she has a newfound confidence; finding that the person looking back in the mirror is someone to be proud of.
She shared how being able to sit and look at herself in the mirror, and to love who she is and where she is in life, has changed her outlook on life in many ways, along with being aware of her mistakes and growing from them.
This confidence has partially manifested itself in Bekah’s involvement in the Mead High School Theatre Department. She was involved in both the fall play and spring musical last year, and the same goes for this year. Specifically, in this year’s fall play, she is the lead for one of the three one-acts that are being performed.
Bekah expressed how the performing arts have been on her mind throughout her life, saying that it’s been a dream of hers since she was a little kid. “If I don’t give it a shot then I don’t feel like I’m living my life to the fullest,” she said.
At her core, Bekah believes that she is “true.” She finds that in high school there’s a lot of two-faced behavior; pretending to like people and lying to those you call friends. It is of utmost importance to her that people live honestly and care for their friendships.
With the tension and conflict that will inevitably come with your relationships, Bekah finds that it’s important to move forward with grace; understanding that everyone will make mistakes, especially since we’re just kids in high school.
The past year has already been a transformational time for Bekah, and as a friend of hers, I’m so excited to see all of the places she will go and all the things she’ll do.
