Liam Payne, a member from the popular boy band One Direction, died at 31 years old on October 16, 2024. His death was the result of a fall from the balcony of his hotel room at Casa Sur, a hotel in Buenos Aires, located on the third floor.
This fall resulted in Payne having “multiple traumatic injuries” and “internal and external bleeding” all of which contributed to his death. The prosecutors labeled his death as “doubtful/undetermined” which means that there is no clear evidence that can classify this death as an accident, homicide, or suicide.
However, the prosecutors have said that it is likely “that he was going through some kind of breakdown as a result of substance abuse” as it seems he was alone when he fell.
Images show Payne’s hotel room damaged and in disarray. In one photo you can see a smashed TV screen and drink glasses, and in another you can see a white powdered substance, aluminum foil, a burned drink top, and a soap packet all located on a desk inside his hotel room. Another picture taken inside the hotel bathroom shows more remnants of wax and foil. Police also said they had found other forms of medication such as over the counter meds, but also clonazepam.
When listening to the 911 call made from hotel staff you can hear more about his drug use and behavior as they mention that they have a guest who is drunk on drugs and alcohol who is damaging his room. They also mentioned how they don’t know whether or not his life is in danger, and are concerned as his room has a balcony.
The initial toxicology report confirms that Payne had multiple drugs in his system including “pink cocaine”, however the final toxicology report has yet to be released and it is unclear when it will be.
Many fans had responded to Payne’s death by gathering together and paying tribute to the star at memorials. As well as social media has blown up with speculations of the death, but most of all you can see fans grieving over the loss of Payne. The remaining One Direction members have put their own statements out as well regarding Paynes impact on them and his unfortunate death.
