Ms. Maura Brady-McMullen (known as Ms. McMullen to her students), has been a high school counselor for 16 years now but she is taking a higher position, working within the district.
She worked at New Meridian High School for one year, covering maternity leave. She then worked at Skyline High School for six years before working at Mead High School for nine years.
Ms. McMullen got a job as a lead counselor for the district, helping all of the other counselors, elementary through high school.
“This is kind of a once in a lifetime opportunity, I’m excited for the challenge of doing something different,” she said.
All of her students, even the ones that didn’t have her as their counselor, enjoyed her as a mentor.
Shayd Fuller (’25) is close with Ms. McMullen. Even though she isn’t her counselor, Fuller (’25) knows Ms. McMullen from outside of school. She volunteers for National Honors Society hours with her and she has also occasionally babysat her kids.
“[it has broadened] my perspective of what I want to do by giving me these different opportunities, working with kids, because I want to be an elementary school teacher,” said Fuller (’25).
“I’m going to miss seeing her in the hallway, being able to catch up on the days that I’m not volunteering or babysitting her kids.”
Assistant Principal Lindsay LaPorte shares students with last names L-RE with Mrs. McMullen and has worked with Ms. McMullen for three-and-a-half years.
Ms. McMullen’s impact has been tramendous, according to Ms. LaPorte. She said they have become close friends as a result of working together.
“She helped me have tough conversations and how to be present and a good listener,” added Ms. LaPorte
Ms. Mary Gibson will replace Ms. McMullen.
Mead High School wishes Ms. McMullen the best!
