There are many clubs at MHS that students have the opportunity to join. One club in particular is the Film Club, run by Mr. Parsons and Ms. Lammey.
Film Club runs from the end of August to the end of the school year in May and meets every Thursday after school. The films are chosen by Mr. Parsons and Ms. Lammey, the advisors, and voted on by the students who participate in their Schoology classroom. With parental consent, the club watches movies rated R and below with a range of genres, such as musicals, horror, romance, and comedies.
Ms. Lammey invites everyone to participate in this club, explaining how “anyone [is] welcome to come anytime.” Even if students can’t attend all meetings, they are still encouraged to go. Generally, between 3 to 15 students come weekly, from a mix of grade levels. It’s a great way for students to meet peers who appreciate films as much as they do.
Not only does this club watch movies, but they also discuss the movie when it’s finished, and provide snacks. Film Club also hosts the annual Film Fest—a festival in which students create short films to present. Film Fest, along with Film Club, has been at MHS for eight years. This school year the 9th annual Film Fest will be hosted. Everybody is welcome to create their own short films, regardless if they attend the Film Club.
Aiden Johnson (‘28) enjoys going to Film Club and has attended since the start of the school year. “It’s a great way to spend my Thursday afternoons,” Johnson said, “I’m sure I’ll attend it next year as well.”
He hopes to create a short film to show off at Film Fest with some of his friends who also attend, and is excited for the next club meetup.
Club member Brianna Fehrn (‘27) has been a part of the club since Freshman year. She highlights how she “really loves Film Club” and hopes more people show up to future meetings.
Ms. Lammey and Mr. Parsons invite everyone to join this fun club.
