After a hard-fought win last Saturday in good ole fashioned “football weather” (i.e. 50 to 60ish degrees and sunny) against Pomona, the Mavs had a little somethin’, somethin’, to anticipate. Okay, I’ll cut to the chase now: MHS Football made it to state! C’mon guys, get pumped!
While most teams would be going crazy and partying, posting on social media about how the other team “don’t got nothing on us” or that their state “train” won’t stop, the Mavs are staying focused and locked in on this game.
Wide receiver Noah Vroman (’25) stated, “This week’s just another week. We’re practicing the same, we’re keeping our heads high, working well, and just making sure we can be the best players we can be for the game.”
The team is treating Saturday like any other game. They just want to go out, play football, and have fun. After all, that’s what the game’s about.
“It’s just a little exciting for all of us. I’m just doing the same thing I always do, you know? Just having fun, messing around, but also staying focused and working on our goals,” said defensive tackle, Hagen Williams (’25).
Feeling loose, relaxed, and ready to play some ‘Merican football for their friends and family has brewed success for the team this year, as well as a familial bond. As quarterback Christian Hiner (’25) puts it, “We’re all [a] family with each other, we treat it like a normal game, and have fun with our last game of the year.”
The focus this team has is like that of a super-squad full of Super Bowl champions. Keeping the fun in the game will allow the Mavs to push through as a team. So will relying on each other to “hold the rope,” and be the best teammate through it all.
MHS is going to play against Thompson Valley, who remains undefeated this year, at CSU’s Canvas Stadium in Fort Collins.
The Mavs are ready to go play some ball!
