St. Vrain Honor Band is a district event where all high school students who participate in their school’s band can audition for the opportunity to perform challenging music under a guest clinician.
There are a variety of instruments students can play in their audition video, which they turn in at the beginning of the year. The clinic lasts for two days in February.
On February 4, students meet at Longmont High School from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. to practice with a clinician and others who qualified. On February 5, a concert is held to show off all of their talents.
This year, three students from MHS passed the audition for Honor Band: Peyton Weichel (‘28), Jameson Franks (‘26), and Brianna Fehrn (‘27). They will all be attending in February.
“I would recommend Honor Band to anyone who plays,” says Brianna Fehrn (‘27), a returning member for her second year. For Jameson Franks (‘26), this will be his third year participating. He agrees that this opportunity is worthwhile and can’t wait.
Peyton Weichel (‘28), who will perform on upright bass, agrees that it’s taken hard work and “a long time to get here.” After playing bass for four years and tuba for two years, Peyton (‘28) is excited to show off his skills.
We’re excited for this year’s Honor Band lineup and can’t wait to see what they come up with. Thank you to Ms. Judy for providing these students with the resources to be able to do this, and kudos to all students in the St. Vrain district who qualified!
