Bella DeNicholas (’28), described as an open-minded and kind person, is entering the second semester with a healthier mindset.
This year Bella wants to start focusing more on her talents. “I need to calm down. I’m so stressed about grades all the time. I just need to [stop] worrying so much and have more fun.”
Stepping into this year, she got rid of traits she didn’t find healthy to prepare for high school. “I had a really difficult time finding friends [in middle school] because I wanted everyone to like me so badly, that I would just chase after them and I don’t think that’s an attractive trait to have.”
However, during her first semester of high school Bella developed a new mentality when it came to making friends, one unlike her past.“I’m willing to take the first step, introducing myself to [new] people.”
She wants to be surrounded by people who bring her up rather than bring her down. “If you don’t like me for the way I dress or the way I talk then maybe you’re not my type of person, and it’s a blessing in disguise that you made fun of me because I don’t want to be friends with [someone like that].”
Some of Bella’s biggest role models in life are her parents and guardians.
“Even though he’s gone through so many things that I can’t even imagine, he’s still become a respectable person in society… I would just like to be a fraction of how kind and forgiving my dad is.”
Her step-mom is someone she can rely on completely and wants to grow up to be more like her. “I would trust her with any information that if I asked her not to tell anybody, she would take it to the grave. She is one of my favorite people in my life.”
Her role models believe in giving people multiple chances in life, something Bella aspires to have. “I try to be as forgiving as I can, even if I find it hard.”
Bella believes that her willingness to work hard benefits her in many areas of her life, including tennis and cross country. “It was so hard to come to practice every day because I was so worn out and I had never been pushed that hard [before].”
She pushed through the season with her head held high, despite all of the injuries and hardships she had to face.
In the future I hope to watch Bella continue to grow through her high school career.
