The seniors and freshmen live in separate worlds. The seniors are in their universe and we’re in ours. My sister for example. Her world is full of college applications and thoughts of the future. She speaks to me once in a while but spends most of her time with worries about upcoming admissions and scholarships.
She’s too old to be my friend. She’s my sister and four years older than me, that’s not our fault. You don’t pick the age difference, you just get siblings, and sometimes they come like mine.
She can’t hang out with my friends and I can’t hang out with hers, or else we may become too alike and are already too different. And since I come right after her, I’m her responsibility.
Someday we’ll be more alike. Maybe when the age difference doesn’t seem so large, or when we can both laugh about the hardships of high school. Until then, we’re in separate worlds, and that’s okay.
