Basketball is my favorite sport overall. I enjoy the faster pace, and I find it much more stimulating and engaging. The rules are also very simple to understand; making it accessible so most people can enjoy it. I also played basketball for a year and enjoyed it, although I decided I was not a sports person.
Volleyball is my second favorite sport because it also has a faster pace. However, some of the rules aren’t simple, so it can quickly get confusing. I do enjoy playing volleyball with my friends in a low-stakes and stress-free environment. Keeping the game more lighthearted makes it more enjoyable for me, as I usually feel that with other people it can be too aggressive at times.
Tennis is my third favorite sport because of the amount of skill it takes. In my Net and Target class, which I took last semester, we played tennis for about a month. During that month, I gained a lot of respect for tennis players due to how difficult the sport is. Before playing, I would have never guessed the skills that go into tennis just by watching professionals play, as they make it appear easy. I will say that I think tennis is very boring to watch, and my ranking is solely based on the skills it takes.
Soccer is my fourth favorite sport because I used to play it when I was younger. I have a lot of good memories, but equally a lot of bad ones. I am neutral towards soccer. I think it can be fun to watch for a little bit, but for me, it gets very boring very quickly. There isn’t much action compared to other sports, and I personally would not choose to watch soccer on my own time. The only time that I enjoy watching is when one of my younger siblings are playing because I have someone to cheer on.
Football is my least favorite sport because of how long the games are and the slow pace. I find it very hard to get into the game and actually care about it. The rules don’t make any sense in my opinion. The point system is strange and it is difficult to follow what’s going on in general. For me, the only redeeming factor about football is going to the games with your friends, hanging out, and dressing up for the theme—other than that I strongly dislike this sport.
