Matthew Villa (‘25) is a senior at Mead High School and he will be graduating in May.
Matthew has not settled on his post high school plans. He is between attending the University of Northern Colorado where he’d like to major in criminal justice or joining the military and becoming a marine.
He is very excited to try new things but is understandably nervous about both of the options he’s considering.
One of Matthew’s favorite memories from high school was going to state for football his freshman year where they competed against Fort Morgan. It meant a lot to him because he had never played on such a large stage for everyone to see.
Villa’s favorite mentors have been his mom and coach Klatt because both of them provided lots of support during his high school career.
Coach Klatt was a mentor to him throughout Matthew’s time as an athlete, and he acted as a life-mentor for him as well.
“I am more responsible because of Klatt and I’ve learned a lot about respect from him,” said Matthew.
Matthew also wants freshman and underclassman to know not to fall behind because it can be hard to catch up. “Once you’re behind, you’re going to be behind for a long time,” said Matthew.
That is something that he has learned in high school, and he hopes to carry that advice into college with him.
