Local and national school walkouts planned in response to Florida tragedy
Teens react to Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting through protest
February 28, 2018
On February 14th, Nikolas Cruz walked into Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School with an AR-15 and shot 3 adults and 14 students. In response to the tragedy, many activists are organizing walk outs to protest gun violence.
All across the nation, individuals are protesting gun violence with walk outs. With some as recent as Wednesday the 21st in Denver.
As Time reports, “they’re taking matters into their own hands, advocating for stricter gun control laws and more mental health resources for treating troubled peers.”
Additional walk outs are planned for March 14th (National walk out), March 24th (March For Our Lives), and April 20th (National walk out).
Some walk outs are not planned ahead, but happen anyway. Yesterday, several walk outs of this nature occurred in Fort Collins where hundreds of students from various high schools came together in old town square.

It is the right and responsibility of American citizens, and really people in general, to voice their opinions in whatever severity is deemed necessary in order to create change, or reformation. The right of students to “walk out” in protest of current firearm restrictions or lack thereof, is theirs to exercise.

I was wondering about when the different walk out days were going to happen. This helped clear it up!

Is gun violence the only subject schools and kids across America are protesting?

I think the purpose behind these walk outs are strong and should be heavily considered in each school district before taking any steps towards mending any problems or unsafe situations.

I think that it’s a good thing that they are protesting the gun violence, but I think that they should have done something about it a long time ago.
