The Grinch will not only steal Christmas this year, but also your heart in the new animated remake of Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch

A beloved retelling of a fan favorite Christmas movie is delivered with The Grinch.

Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch is back, this time animated by the creators of Despicable Me, and The Secret Life of Pets, Illumination Entertainment. This company has also worked on The Lorax; another popular Dr. Seuss movie. Having made $96 million worldwide its first weekend, The Grinch (2018) is here to stay and may very well become a new traditional movie to watch each holiday season.

The animation style of The Grinch felt very cute and warm, while the attitude of the Grinch was the opposite being rude and cruel. Max, the Grinch’s dog, was happy and charming and created the perfect balance to the Grinch’s negative tone. Benedict Cumberbatch (voice actor for The Grinch, and famous for playing Doctor Strange in the MCU) stuck with an american accent in the movie, which was nice and the delivery of his lines stuck out. Pharrell Williams makes an unexpected appearance, as he narrates lines from the book throughout the movie. If somehow lost in the story, Pharrell is there to get you back on track and ready for what’s next.

The Whos of Whoville—specifically Cindy and her friends—had their own mission while The Grinch planned to steal their Christmas. Cindy developed a long plan to trap Santa on Christmas Eve to ask him a very important question. Her friends were the guinea pigs of the trap and helped encourage her along the way. Having two different “stories” to focus on kept The Grinch entertaining to watch and made for some very funny moments.

The Grinch delivered lots of emotion throughout the story. Learning the true reason for his hatred of Christmas, and why he lives all alone is done through flashbacks and past memories. Once hit by those emotions, the ending of the movie is touching and heartwarming as the Whos invite the Grinch to Christmas dinner and to celebrate the holiday.

Max and the Whos carried the cuteness and comedic aspect to make this movie more than just another “Christmas movie”. The attention to detail and message of the story were amazing and makes The Grinch a movie anyone can enjoy.
