Varsity Girls Basketball falls to the Berthoud Spartans
The Mavericks fell short of winning their game against Berthoud but they hope to improve on time to win their game against Windsor
On January 26th the Varsity Girls Basketball team lost to Berthoud 63-39, scoring a total of 9 points in the first half of this match. Berthoud has been having a decent season, being 13-3 overall and 7-2 in their league after their win against Mead.
The regular season is over the halfway point with this past game against the Berthoud Spartans.
With 12 points, Guard Maddox Boston (#12) said, “I think that we let our guard down a bit in the beginning, we definitely need to build more confidence when it comes to game. We couldn’t really run an offense until the second half of the game but we did have a decent press break and defense.”
The Mavericks are on a five game losing streak and are hoping to change that on January 29 in their game against Windsor. Guard Hailee Martinez (#10) said, “As a team we plan on working hard individually and together to build more of a team chemistry. We also plan on being smarter during games and playing through the whole game.”
Mead made a total of 8 free throws out of 17 leaving their free throw percentage at 47%. The girls struggled offensively but later started to pick it up in the second half both offensively and defensively, putting up 30 points.
Although it wasn’t one of Mead’s strongest games, many of the girls believe that they have to make some minor changes and will be ready to go once the game against Windsor comes on the 29th.
