Local Mead Rotary helps sponsor week long camp over summer to all students
Here is what you need to know in order to apply.
For most people, summer can be filled with long, boring days of sitting at home and doing homework. For the many students who may long for something to break up the days of nothingness, Mead High’s very own Rotary Interact Club is offering a week-long camp during summer for all students.
The camp is called Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA). It is held in the YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park. Any high schooler in their sophomore and junior year is welcome to attend, regardless of past experience in Mead High’s Interact Club.
The club is a leadership event with different activities where you can learn more about rotary, leadership effectiveness, and service projects among various things.
There are two different weeks that RYLA will be held. The first will be held Sunday, July 5 through Friday, July 10, 2020. The second will be held from Sunday, July 12 through Friday, July 17, 2020. The camp is an overnight trip.
The camp comes at no cost, you must only provide transportation to and from Estes Park for yourself. The local Mead Rotary pays the $450 price for all students in attendance.
You can submit an application for the camp at https://www.rmryla.org/about_ryla.html. The application due date is April 30, but you are encouraged to submit one earlier as Mead Rotary can only select and send five students.
Once you have submitted your application you need to contact the local rotary club in order to set up an interview.
You can do this by contacting the president Linda Martin on their website meadrotary.org or by calling their number at 303-827-5212.
This is a wonderful opportunity to give back to your community over the summer and gain essential information that will help any future career paths. It is also a wonderful thing to any future applications.
Your donation will support the student journalists of Mead High School. Your contribution will allow us to purchase equipment and cover our annual website hosting costs.
Lauren Larson is a Junior this year. She enjoys hiking, scary movies, and hanging out with friends. She is looking forward to learning more about Mead High School and the different aspects of journalism.
