Beginning Jan. 2 at Crackpots Pottery Studio, customers are able to pick a ceramic bowl to paint and donate to the neighborhood OUR Center to help fight hunger. There are four different styles of ceramic bowls to pick from, all costing 18 dollars.
After painting your bowl, the Crackpots team will fire it in their kilns and send it to the OUR Center, where they will live until the Empty Bowls event on March 9 at Longmont High School, where doors open at 10:30 a.m. At the event, local restaurants will serve various soups that attendees can choose from while looking at all the painted bowls.
Every year, there’s a silent auction where all of the best-painted bowls are able to be bid on and bought. Many other bowls are available for free. Last year, Crackpot owner Tamar Hendricks reminisced on the first year of Empty Bowls, saying that her favorite part was how involved the community was. This is the 21st year of the event.
Tickets to the event are 25 dollars and are available for purchase in the Crackpots’ studio and on the OUR Center website. If available, more tickets can be bought at the door on March 9 for 30 dollars. You don’t have to paint a bowl to attend the event.
“Empty Bowl parties” are also available to book at Crackpots. Bring friends and family in, paint a bowl, and help fight hunger in your community.
