Ms. Becky Burger, preferably known as Ms. Becky, has stepped in as Mead High School’s new media clerk starting in August of the 24-25 school year. Her favorite part of her new opportunity has been working with high school students, saying, “I love the atmosphere.”
As the media clerk, Ms. Becky does various things to uphold a safe and comfortable environment in the MHS library.
Before taking on her new job, Ms. Becky worked in marketing for 22 years, showcasing experiences with NBC and NPR. Before the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic hit, Ms. Becky was going to work for NPR in Colorado but then decided to wait a few months.
Ms. Becky originally moved to Colorado in 2010 with her husband from a small town in Michigan called Charlevoix while she worked at NBC for two years and then moved again in 2012 when her husband got a job at the Under Sea Warfare Center in Newport, Rhode Island. After four years in RI and working for NPR, Ms. Becky moved to Firestone permanently in 2016.
Despite her dense career in marketing, Ms. Becky originally went to college at North Central Michigan College to become a police officer. “I kinda stumbled into marketing,” she said.
When looking for a new job, Ms Becky said, “[I] didn’t want to go back into marketing because I didn’t want to travel and I was looking for something with more flexible hours. I wanted something where I could still have summers off, and I love hanging out with my girls.”
Outside of school, Ms. Becky loves to cook, bake, and paint. She also loves Halloween and all things spooky. One of her favorite movies is Silence of the Lambs. “That’s what I wanted to do when I grew up for the longest time – be a forensic psychologist.”
We welcome Ms. Becky and appreciate her taking on a position to help students wherever needed, and wish her a smooth school year.
