Ms. Hackney is one of the newer teachers at Mead High School. She is now entering her 4th year of teaching, as she taught 1st grade for a year before moving up to teach high school classes.
Ms. Hackney described the 9th and 10th graders as a fun group.
“They have a lot of energy and they always bring exciting stories to class.”
Ms. Hackney revealed her passion for softball upon attending Otero College and playing softball there for two years, before transferring to CSU Pueblo and playing softball while she got her degree in teaching. She also said she is coaching for the softball team this year, as she has been playing for 17 years.
She also explains that she had wanted to pursue teaching since she was in first grade, “I have a younger brother. We’re eleven months apart and he hates school,” She said, “I’d go home and try to teach him things — so I think I’ve just always known.”
Ms. Hackney also has a passion for traveling. Last summer, she took twelve students to Greece and the summer before she took twenty-five students to seven different countries in Europe. She explains that she tries to travel as often as she can when she’s not working or at school.
Passionate is the best word used to describe her. “I think a lot of the things that I do, I like to put all my passion into.” Says Ms. Hackney
“I’m excited to be back home. I grew up in the area.” Ms. Hackney said, “I went to Erie High School and so I’m excited to be back in the St. Vrain School District.”
Mead High is excited to have Ms. Hackey at our school.
