Shayd Fuller (‘25) is graduating in May, and will be attending University of Wyoming in Laramie. Shayd plans to major in Elementary Education and minor in Developmental Psychology and hopes to become an elementary school teacher. More specifically, she is interested in teaching kindergarten through second grade.
Shayd mostly credits her career choice to her job at Crackpots, as it gave her a chance to sit down and interact with children in a fun environment. Fuller is also a self proclaimed school-lover and hopes to encourage that in kids, stating “I think I have a love for learning, [and that] inspires a love for educating.”
Looking back, Shayd recognizes her middle school English teacher, Ms. Campbell, as one of her greatest teaching inspirations.
“She made me fall in love with learning, specifically English. I think about her all the time, and if I owe anyone anything, it’s her.”
Some of Shayd’s proudest accomplishments throughout her four years at Mead include being able to buy herself a new car in cash at 17, maintaining a 4.0 gpa all eight semesters of her high school career, being part of the National Honors Society, becoming a first place state recognized journalist, and most importantly growing into the confident young woman she is today. Through her teenage years so far, Shayd has learned the value of emotional maturity.
“I’ve learned to be more mindful, [and to] think about what is going on in someone else’s life before I’m too quick to judge. Someone might be having a hard day, you never know.”
Some of Shayd’s favorite memories from high school include being a “little freshman” sitting at the top of the student section at the football games and thinking how all of the seniors up front were so cool. She, like many other seniors, has no idea how time flew so fast, and hopes to be that senior to someone else.
Fuller’s advice to her freshman self is to “mind your own business,” which I think is pretty applicable to most freshmen. She has learned to have a heart for other people and to take her personal beef to her mom, rather than to social media (shoutout Pam).
Shayd has become incredibly sentimental this year, and is glad to say that some of the same friends she had in middle school have stuck by her side, and become adults whom she could not be more proud of, specifically noting her good friend Taylor Morris (‘25).
We wish Shayd luck on her endeavors at University of Wyoming, and know that she will find success in whatever she puts her mind to.
