Taylor Basson (‘25) has had an amazing high school experience and is excited about the new experiences college has to offer.
She will be attending Colorado State University (CSU) in the Fall to pursue a career in the field of Sports Broadcasting, as that has been her dream job since she was a little girl. Although Taylor hasn’t made a final decision on her major, she wants to study communications with a minor in sports management, but she may add a major in journalism her sophomore year.
Her family, specifically her dad and brother, have helped her find passion in sports broadcasting. “I grew up in a sports family, so I gained the love of it. I love watching football [and] I love watching basketball. I would love the opportunity to broadcast those sports.”
Taylor chose CSU specifically because of their broadcasting program. When she was younger, she went to DU for a convention and spoke with active broadcasters. “Most of them went to CSU, and that’s where they got involved.” CSU gives many internship opportunities to help students practice around the field as well as find what they want to do, which is another reason Taylor was drawn to the school.
After her brother’s experience going to an out-of-state college, she realized being close to home was a “big factor” in finding a college. She said it was hard for her brother and family to be so far apart, and they often found it difficult to visit. She’s glad CSU is so close to home and plans to spend the weekends with her family.
The advice she gives to new high school students is to “make the most of it.” One of her biggest regrets is wishing the school years away. She realized in her Junior year that “if you don’t take the risk, you’re not getting anywhere.” Taylor feels that getting out of your comfort zone is important to grow and make lasting memories, and wishes she understood that sooner.
After spending the past four years at Mead, Taylor is excited to expand her horizons. She’s ready for the new experiences and relationships college will bring, although she’s sad to leave her underclassmen friends.
We wish the best of luck to Taylor in this new journey!
