Maverick Christian Fellowship (MCF), formally known as Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), is held on Tuesdays during both lunches. The rooms MCF are held in include D134 (Ms. Hedlun’s room) during 1st lunch, and G118 (Ms. Krack’s room) during 2nd lunch.
During MCF, students of the Christian religion can come in for a guided lesson and prayer, as well as pizza. Every week, student leaders speak to fellow peers, and sometimes youth pastors of different churches come in as well. Speakers talk about their journey they’ve had in finding their faith, and the struggles they’ve had to overcome.
This club has been at Mead for almost seven years. Students run the club, giving them more freedom and empowerment to express their religion as they are in a safe space with like-minded peers.
Leader Taylor Morris (‘25) feels this community of students is truly able to come together during MCF. “It’s really beautiful that we can all come together in a space like this and be with the Lord because you don’t get that at most schools”. She feels she is impacted by MCF, and that it makes a difference in her overall life.
MCF is a great opportunity for students to be a part of something bigger here at Mead while finding friendships with like-minded students in a supportive place.
Leader Derek Martinez (‘27) says MCF “means everything” to him. “It gave me a reply supportive group of friends, and it’s like a family to me. I wouldn’t trade that club for anything”. He feels this club affects all participants in a positive way in finding their beliefs because of the support all students and leaders give.
Coach Klatt, Ms. Hedlun, as well as Ms. Judy, facilitate MCF.
Klatt believes there are no more important decisions people can have than the ones they make with their faith. He feels high school students can find themselves in the support they provide one another while embracing who they are. “That’s what Maverick Christian Fellowship does. It gives kids a foundation and a relationship with Jesus unlike anything that you can do in public education”. Coach Klatt highlights the importance of being a part of something bigger, whether that’s a sports team or club like MCF.
Maverick Christian Fellowship is an amazing opportunity for students to find their faith with the support of peers and important figures across different churches in the Mead area. The club welcomes any students who would be interested in attending.
